What is a thesis proposal?
A thesis proposal is a document that outlines the thesis topic, defines the issues that the thesis will address, and explains why the topic warrants further research. It should identify a problem and provide a proposed solution to that problem.
Key components of a thesis proposal:
1. Title: A clear and concise title that accurately reflects the thesis topic.
2. Abstract: A brief summary of the proposal, highlighting the research problem, objectives, and methodology.
3. Introduction:
i. Background:
Provides context for the research topic, explaining its importance and relevance.
ii. Problem Statement:
Clearly defines the research problem or gap in knowledge that the thesis will address.
iii. Significance:
Explains why the research is important and what it will contribute to the field.
4. Literature Review:
Overview: Summarizes existing research on the topic, highlighting key findings and debates.
5. Research Objectives and Questions:
i. Objectives: States the specific goals of the research.
ii. Research Questions: Formulates specific questions that the research will investigate.
6. Methodology:
Approach: Describes the research design and methods to be used.
7. Justification: Explains why the chosen approach is appropriate for addressing the research questions.
8. Expected Outcomes:
Results: Predicts the potential findings of the research.
9. References:
Bibliography: Provides a list of all sources cited in the proposal.
THESIS/DISSERTATION WRITING FORMAT
Title page - A clear and concise title that accurately reflects the thesis topic. It includes the author, institution, department, and date of delivery
Abstract - A brief summary of the proposal, highlighting the research problem, objectives, and methodology
Declaration - The declaration states that the thesis has been composed by the candidate, and that the work is the candidate's own
Certification and Approval - This signifies that the thesis has been reviewed and approved by the thesis supervisor and other relevant authorities. It's a formal document that states the thesis meets the necessary criteria for acceptance
Preface - A personal introductory section where the author shares experiences, motivations, and reflections on the research process
Dedication - A personal tribute to someone or a group of people
Acknowledgements - A section where the author expresses gratitude to and recognizes the individuals and institutions who provided support during the research and writing process
Table of contents - Serves as a roadmap for the reader, listing all the chapters, sections, and subsections with their corresponding page numbers
Chapters - Chapters in a thesis are separate units within a thesis. Each chapter typically focuses on a distinct aspect of the research
Introduction - The initial section that provides background, context, and purpose for the research, guiding the reader from a general topic to the specific focus of the thesis
Literature reviews - Overview: Summarizes existing research on the topic, highlighting key findings and debates
Methodology - Approach: Describes the research design and methods used
References - Bibliography: Provides a list of all sources cited in the proposal
Required pages
Typically 50 pages or more for Bachelor degree, 100 pages or more for Master degree and 150 pages or more for Doctorate degree. An oral examination takes place after the thesis has been submitted.

What is required?
The University regulations require you to provide both a hard-bound copy and an electronic copy of your final corrected thesis to be kept and made available by the University Library.
Detailed guidance on the presentation of your thesis will be communicated to you.
Please follow these important steps:
1. Upload an electronic copy of your thesis and send it to the University’s email: mail@biblicaluniversity.org.ng
2. Submit a hard-bound copy of your thesis directly to the University Registrar.
3. Both copies must be submitted not later than MAY to meet the deadline.
